AffRef vs Trackdesk (2026)
Two affiliate-tracking platforms aimed at completely different buyers. Honest comparison of pricing, features, who each is built for — and where Trackdesk genuinely beats us.
Trackdesk is a well-known partner-and-affiliate tracking platform with 3,000+ customers, ISO 27001 certification, and case studies featuring brands like Philips and PokerGO. AffRef is a younger, narrower product built for Shopify brands and Stripe SaaS founders specifically. Both can run an affiliate program. They are not aimed at the same buyer.
Upfront: AffRef is the tool we make. Everything below is as honest as we can make it. We'll point out where Trackdesk legitimately beats us, where we beat them, and how to figure out which is actually right for you.
The one-line summary
- Trackdesk — the enterprise-leaning generalist. Multi-segment (SaaS, ecom, MLM, prop trading, networks), ISO-certified, enterprise-grade trust signals, but starts at $249/mo and they're cagey about whether they take a revenue cut.
- AffRef — the focused SMB choice. Built specifically for Shopify brands and Stripe SaaS. $49/mo entry. Explicit zero platform fees on affiliate sales. Younger product, smaller customer base, no enterprise trust marks yet.
Pricing — the biggest single difference
| Tier | Trackdesk | AffRef |
|---|---|---|
| Entry | $249/mo (Business) | $49/mo (Starter) |
| Mid | from $499/mo (Enterprise) | $99/mo (Pro) |
| Top self-serve | from $1,999/mo (Enterprise PLUS) | $249/mo (Scale) |
| Transaction / platform fees | "Revenue-based pricing" | 0% — never |
| Free trial | 14 days + assisted setup | 7 days, card required |
Pricing as of September 2026. Verify on each vendor's pricing page — these change.
AffRef is roughly 5× cheaper at every tier. That's the headline. The reason is positioning: Trackdesk sells to mid-market and up, AffRef sells to indie founders and growing SMBs.
What "revenue-based pricing" actually means
Trackdesk's homepage describes their model as "revenue-based" and "fair and transparent" without quoting a percentage. That phrasing almost always means a cut of affiliate-driven sales on top of the monthly subscription — otherwise they'd just call it "flat pricing" and brag about it. We can't tell you the exact percentage because they don't publish it; you'd need to talk to sales.
AffRef takes zero percent of affiliate sales. At $50k/mo in affiliate-driven revenue, a 3% platform cut would cost you $1,500/mo on top of the base subscription. Across a year that's $18k. That math is the wedge.

Where Trackdesk genuinely wins
- Brand trust at the enterprise tier. 3,000+ customers, ISO 27001 certified, Stripe Premier Partner status, named logos like Philips. If your buyer is a procurement team that needs a vendor security questionnaire filled in, Trackdesk has the paperwork. AffRef doesn't yet.
- Breadth. Prop trading, MLM commission structures, lead-gen networks, crypto payouts, Magento and BigCommerce integrations. They've shipped a lot of niche functionality. AffRef focuses on two segments (Shopify + Stripe SaaS) and ignores the rest on purpose.
- Operational maturity. 99.99% uptime SLA, assisted setup on free trial, established support team. AffRef is solo-founder-built and async-only — no setup hand-holding, no Zoom calls.
- Scale stories. Their case studies cite real enterprise revenue ($2M/month, $10K/day). AffRef is pre-revenue at that scale.
Where AffRef wins
- Price. 5× cheaper at every tier. $49 vs $249 entry; $99 vs $499 mid; $249 vs $1,999 top self-serve. For an indie founder, that's the difference between "I can afford this from day one" and "I'll set up an affiliate program when I have funding."
- No platform fees, explicitly. AffRef takes zero percent of affiliate sales, ever. Trackdesk's homepage describes their pricing as "revenue-based" without naming a percentage — treat that as the language vendors use when they take a cut they don't want to advertise.
- Sharper product focus. Shopify and Stripe SaaS specifically. The Shopify install is one click (real OAuth app, not a script tag). The SaaS API is small enough to read in 5 minutes and ship in 30. Trackdesk has to support 900+ integration patterns; that necessarily compromises depth on any one.
- First-party tracking by default. AffRef's tracking lives on your domain, not a third-party tracker. Safari ITP, Firefox ETP, ad blockers — first-party survives where script-tag tracking dies. Why this matters →
- Stripe Connect auto-pay built in. Pay affiliates with one click on AffRef Pro+ — the transfer goes Stripe-to-Stripe with zero intermediary fees. Trackdesk routes payouts through PayPal, Wise, or Tipalti, all of which take fees and add a manual step.
- Modern dashboard UX. Creator-economy affiliate handles (`@catmomdaily` rather than "Affiliate #14237"), EPC / conversion-rate as headline metrics, upward-trend charts that read like a Stripe Dashboard. Trackdesk's UI is closer to ad-tech tradition — more cells, less story.
The actual decision tree
Pick Trackdesk if any of these are true:
- Your buyer is a procurement team and you need ISO 27001, SOC 2, or a signed vendor SLA.
- You run a lead-gen network, an MLM, or a prop trading program with multi-tier commission structures.
- You pay affiliates in crypto and need BTC / ETH payout rails.
- You're on Magento or BigCommerce.
- You're already at $1M+/yr in affiliate-attributed revenue and the founder-built positioning is a non-starter.
Pick AffRef if any of these are true:
- You're on Shopify, Stripe, Lemon Squeezy, or RevenueCat.
- You're a solo founder or small team starting your first affiliate program.
- You want the pricing math to stop punishing you the moment your affiliate program actually starts working — flat fee, no cut.
- You want Stripe Connect auto-pay so you never have to manually settle affiliate payouts.
- You're running a creator-led program and you want a dashboard that doesn't feel like 2012 ad-tech.
