How to Export CSV from UpPromote
UpPromote is another popular Shopify affiliate app. This guide walks through the three CSV exports it offers — affiliates, referrals, and payments — with column reference and the cleanup work to do before importing elsewhere.
UpPromote (formerly UpPromote: Affiliate Marketing) covers the three standard data sets every Shopify program produces: affiliates, referrals (clicks and orders), and payments. Each is its own CSV download.
This guide explains where each export lives, what columns you'll get, and the things to watch out for when importing the data into a different affiliate platform or your own reporting tooling.
Where to find each export
- Affiliates export — inside the UpPromote admin (loaded from the Shopify Apps menu), open Affiliates → List. The page header has an “Export” button.
- Referrals export — Referrals page (sometimes called Orders or Conversions depending on UpPromote version). Same export-button pattern.
- Payments export — Payments → Payment history. One row per payout to an affiliate.
UpPromote occasionally renames sections between versions; if the menu labels have shifted, look for a download icon (down-arrow into tray) or a three-dot menu in the top-right of each list page.
Affiliates export: columns you'll get
- Name / Email / Phone — identity fields.
- Referral link / Code — what the affiliate uses in URLs.
- Coupon code — the Shopify discount code assigned for code-based attribution.
- Program / Affiliate program — if you run multiple programs on UpPromote.
- Status — Approved / Pending / Disabled.
- Commission rate / type — percentage or fixed amount.
- Payment method — PayPal / Manual / Store credit.
- PayPal email — payout target.
- Created at — signup timestamp.
- Lifetime stats — clicks, orders, total sales, total commissions. Snapshot at export time.
Common gotchas
- Multi-program affiliates appear once per program. If you run more than one program through UpPromote and an affiliate belongs to several, the export contains one row per (affiliate, program) pair — not one row per affiliate. De-dupe on email if you want one row per person.
- Coupon-vs-link attribution is sometimes split. An affiliate's link-driven orders and coupon-driven orders may show under separate attribution sources in the referrals export. Pull the affiliates export to map back to the same affiliate.
- Excel ID corruption. Long order numbers and affiliate IDs get converted to scientific notation if you open the CSV in Excel. Use a text editor or import directly.
- Lifetime numbers are point-in-time. They're accurate as of the export moment but don't keep updating.
Referrals export
One row per attributed Shopify order. Key columns:
- Order ID / Order number — Shopify references.
- Affiliate email / code — who got the credit.
- Order total / Currency — sale amount.
- Commission amount — what the affiliate is owed.
- Status — Approved / Pending / Rejected / Refunded.
- Source — link / coupon / signup-link (depending on how attribution fired).
- Order date — timestamp.
Payments export
One row per payout to an affiliate. Includes payout method, transaction ID (if PayPal), amount, currency, and date. Useful for accounting reconciliation, less useful for ongoing reporting.
What to do with the export
- Switching Shopify affiliate apps. Most modern apps accept UpPromote's CSV shape with minor column mapping. Our 2026 Shopify affiliate app comparison covers feature trade-offs across the top options.
- Reporting / BI. Push the referrals export into Looker Studio or Google Sheets for analysis the UpPromote dashboard doesn't surface (e.g. attribution-source mix over time, affiliate cohort LTV).
- Backup. Always take an export before bulk-editing affiliates, commission rates, or program structure.
- Custom payout math. Tiered bonuses or one-off adjustments that UpPromote can't natively model can be calculated against the referrals export.
FAQs
Can I filter by date before exporting?
For referrals and payments, yes — apply the date filter on the page before exporting. Affiliates typically export all-time regardless of filter (worth re-checking on the current UpPromote version).
Does UpPromote export commission tiers / settings?
The per-affiliate effective rate is in the export. The program-level commission rules (e.g. “Gold tier = 15%”) live in UpPromote's settings and aren't part of the CSV — you'll need to note them separately and recreate them in the new platform.
What about pending commissions?
Pay them out from UpPromote before switching. Otherwise you risk double-counting when the new platform tracks future activity and UpPromote releases the historical pending balance later.
Are affiliate tags / segments included?
Yes, if UpPromote's tag system is enabled on your plan. Tags appear as a comma-separated column. Importers that don't understand tags will ignore it — you may need to convert tags to commission-tier overrides during import.
